5 things to consider when starting a home project

  • Budget:  Be sure to not only include material and labor cost, but also calculate rentals, added material due to mistakes, time( off work for DIYers), permit fees, weather extending projects, etc.
  • Permits and local ordinances:  Be sure to check your local area including HOA, City and County entities for any permits, restrictions, guidelines and setbacks for your project.
  • Usage and functionality: Consider all the different ways you could use and enjoy the completed project.
  • Improvement value: How will your project improve your daily living?  Also, how will it effect your resale and will you get back everything you put into it?  Is that important to you?
  • Contractor or DIY:  Do you have the skills to perform the job?  Do you have a good grasp of all aspects of the project or need some guidance?
